Service Delivery Team

The Service Delivery Team aims to provide a continuity of specialist knowledge in order to support research groups in much the same way that a central IT department would, specifically:

  • Reduced staff-turnover (employment not linked to grants)
  • Cross cover
  • Standardised processes and documentation

In order to leverage the full benefits of a cloud-based platform such as CYNAPSE, ways of working need to be adjusted to include the use of containerisation1 and workflow2 technologies. The service delivery team aims to reduce the need for your bioinformaticians to become experts in these elements providing support, migration or full development of these items on your behalf.

The team includes members with extensive experience in providing bioinformatic solutions at scale as well as expertise in optimisation of both compute and storage of data within HPC and cloud environments.

Additional services

The Service Delivery Team will also provide other services for an at cost charge:

plugins

  • Additional short term support
  • Productionising code
    • Continuous integration & deployment
    • Optimising compute and storage use
  • Tool development
  • Commissioned Analysis
  • Data archival projects

  1. Containers are portable software collections able to be executed on multiple platforms, in this case Docker is the technology of choice.

  2. Workflows are used to join logical execution components of an analytical pipeline. They allow for optimised use of compute and reuse of code. CloudOS is focused on Nextflow but also supports WDL
